August 8th is National Sneak Some Zucchini Into Your Neighbor’s Porch Day

Although we’re not quite sure where this “holiday” originated, we love this idea!  One of the great things about gardening is being able to share the fruits of your labor (pun intended).  People who garden often have an abundance of fruits and veggies to share, so why not surprise one of your neighbors with some yummy treats from your garden?  It’s a great way to promote health and to pay it forward at the same time!

Did you know that zucchini is actually a fruit?  As we mentioned in our previous post, Is a Tomato a Fruit or Vegetable, fruits are matured plant ovaries that contain seeds, while a vegetable is a food that is eaten as a leaf, flower, or bud.  All varieties of squash, including zucchini, fall into the fruit category.

So, if you have some extra zucchinis from your garden, be sure to leave some on the porch of an unsuspecting neighbor today or any day!  While you’re add it, gift them a jar of MEESH’S® Marinara to top their zucchini with.  Our fresh tasting sauce pairs perfectly with roasted or grilled zucchini.  Your neighbors will be pleasantly surprised and touched by your thoughtfulness.
